Gabriel was just 25 when his drug abuse plunged his family into unimaginable tragedy. After consuming the drug LSD multiple times in the hours leading up to a horrifying incident, he succumbed to acute hallucinogen intoxication, plagued by illusions and paranoid delusions.
The drug had severely distorted his mind and behaviour, culminating in devastation and fatalities. In a drug-fuelled frenzy, he killed both his 56-year-old mother with a stab wound to the chest, and his 90-year-old grandmother who sustained multiple facial fractures. Two innocent lives were senselessly lost, and a family was shattered by an act of drug-induced violence.
On the basis of mental incapacity, Gabriel was later sentenced to 22 months’ jail for the drug offences, alongside a homicide charge. His case stands as a chilling reminder that drug abuse does not affect only the person abusing drugs. It has the ability to claim innocent lives.
Drug abuse harms more people than you think. Remember the victims.
